Sparebank 1 i nye lokaler

Sparebank 1, Rygge-Vaaler Sparebank avd. Fredrikstad åpnet 24. oktober i nye lokaler i Stadion sør, på Værste. Griff Arkitektur har  i samarbeid med Griff kommunikasjon og Stavem Design  levert et helhetlig komplett leveranse på arkitektur, identitet-/profilering-/ og interiørdesign i tråd med bankens profil, verdigrunnlag og nyutviklede driftskonsept. Et tett og kreativt samarbeid med bank og ansatte har gitt en annerledes og ny bank som eiere og besøkende er svært fornøyd med, og vi utrolig stolte av!

Helsehuset Fredrikstad realiseres

Helsehuset går nå til realisering på Værste. Totalt bygges det 20.000 m2 i første byggetrinn. Ferdigstillelse er planlagt høsten 2013.

Griff mugg busters

Noen prosjekter er tyngre å forløse enn andre. Vårt bidrag til Building Blocks viste seg å være et av dem. Designet betinget bruk av bambus for å oppnå god nok styrke. Dimensjonen vi trengte rakk vi kun å få via en kontakt i Vietnam. Stokkene ble hogd i regnskogen, og skipet ferske til Europa, i verdens tetteste container full av mugg. Skulle vi kanselere ? Vi valgte å hive oss rundt å ta jobben med å få rengjort stasen. Watch the video

Vaterland næring & kulturpark

På oppdrag for Vaterland Eiendomsutvikling AS er vi igang med en reguleringsplan for overgangssonen mellom Øra Industripark og Vaterland tett på Gamlebyen og Fredrikstad sentrum. Oppstart planarbeid ble annonsert i desember 2011 og innlevering av planforslag er planlagt høsten 2011. Hovedintensjon i prosjektet er å åpne for offentlig tilgang til tidligere lukkede industriarealer, og å skape en bedre overgang mellom industri og eksisterende boligområder. En annen hovedambisjon er å få etablert en ny tilknytning til Fredrikstad sentrum ved å få Elvemetro tilknytning direkte fra Vaterland. Hydrogenfabrikken Kunsthall ligger innenfor planområdet og inngår som en del av kultursatningen med fokus på Kulturbasert næring.

Vi søker arkitekter med minimum 10-15 år erfaring for rask tiltredelse. Pga. økende oppdragsmengde trenger vi 1-2 prosjektledere med erfaring fra teamledelse og kundeoppfølging. Griff sponser Glasnost 2011

Glasnost er et seminar som hver vår holdes for studenter ved landets fire statlige film- og scenekunstutdanninger; Akademi for Scenekunst i Fredrikstad, Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo, Høgskolen i Nord Trøndelag og Den norske filmskolen på Lillehammer. Tanken er å skape en større åpenhet mellom elevene fra de respektive skolene gjennom et forum hvor vi kan vise hverandres arbeider, utveksle ideer og erfaringer. Griff er i år som ifjor hovedsponsor for arrangementet.

Seier i invitert konkurranse

Griff vant konkurranse om boligutvikling på Langøya på Kråkerøy utenfor Fredrikstad sentrum. Øvrige deltagere var Jansen Arkitekter AS i Moss og BAS Arkitekter fra Sarpsborg. Oppgaven var å finne en overordnet strategi for å utvikle eksisterende industriområde til nytt formål. Vår løsning var en kombinasjon av gjenbruk av eksisterende industristrukturer og lansering av en parsellbebyggelse med atriumshager som en ny boform i dette området av Fredrikstad.

Building blocks

I utstillingen "Building Blocks" er det barna som er sjefen! Barn og unge mellom 8 og 16 år fra Fredrikstad, Bergen, Trondheim og Oslo kobles med arkitekter slik at de sammen kan skape fantasifulle rom i full størrelse. Seks arkitektkontorer har takket ja til å delta på utstillingen, som åpner på DogA 1. oktober 2011. 3RW arkitekter, Arkitektkontoret Gasa, Brendeland & Kristoffersen Arkitekter, Griff Arkitektur, Morfeus Arkitekter og Rintala Eggertson Architects er arkitektene som skal visualisere barnas ideer. Sammen lager de skisser, og arkitektene leverer tegninger av bygninger som skal bygges på DogA. "Building Blocks” arrangeres av Norsk Form i samarbeid med Färgfabriken Stockholm og Veidekke etter en opprinnelig idé av Färgfabriken og Medium. Utstillingen ble første gang vist i Färgfabriken i 2010. Utstillingen er en del av programmet til Arkitekturens år.

Perlemorveien 7

Perlemorveien 7 er nå ferdigstilt, med unntak av utomhusarbeider pga. årstiden. Familien Aasvangen/Gulbrandsen har flyttet inn i sitt nye hjem, og vi gratulerer så mye. Utførende har vært Fredrikstad Entreprenørservice AS v/ Ole Nordli som har gjort en strålende jobb. Flere bilder kommer etterhvert.

Litteraturhuset Fredrikstad

Idag lanseres Litteraturhuset Fredrikstad. Forslaget er opprinnelig et resultat av en invitert arkitektkonkurranse hvor Griff foreslo å åpne Agentgaten ned til elva som et nytt gateløp med elvekontakt. Prosjektet er videreutviklet i samarbeid og på oppdrag for Fredriksborg Eiendom AS. Øvrige deltagere i Arkitektkonkurransen var Stein Halvorsen og Pluss Arkitektur.

Akademi for scenekunst på plass

De skal bli skuespillere og scenografer. De startet det 15. året til Akademi for scenekunst i helt nye lokaler. Og de var svært fornøyd da de fikk se Østfolds største Black Box første gang 10. januar 2011. Mandag 10. januar var de på omvisning for første gang i de nyinnflytta lokalene til Akademi for scenekunst. Høgskolens scenekunststudenter likte uten tvil det de så: De smilte og klappet hele veien !

Detaljplan Blomstertorvet

Varsel om regulering; I henhold til plan- og bygningsloven §12-8 kunngjøres herved varsel om oppstart av reguleringsarbeid:

Detaljplan for Blomstertorget, med kvartal mellom blomstertorget og nedre torg og del av kvartal mellom Blomstertorget og Dampskips-brygga. Planarbeidet er en privat initiert detaljregulering iht PBL§12.3.Hensikten med planarbeidet er å muliggjøre en ny løsning for Blomstertorget inkludert tilgrensende bygg med ny aktivitet, ny parkeringskjeller og offentlig tilgjengelig areal på bakkeplan. Program for the DeNoFa detail plan

The commencement of detailed planing for the Denofa area has now been announced, with a consultation period of 6 weeks during which the draft planning program will be considered. The purpose of this regulation work will be to establish an improved transition zone between the residential properties at Vaterland, Kongsten Hageby and Øra industrial park. The idea is to construct a new transition zone with lighter industrial and cultural functions towards the industrial park, and provide new living accommodation towards the residential neighborhoods. This area has the potential to become a fantastic place to stay, with direct ferry links to Fredrikstad town center and the historical old town. In addition the area benefits from having Kongsten as it´s nearest neighbor, with all the various activities that take place there. The planning program can be viewed here.

Second place for the Sabakuhus at Sandnessjøen

Our proposal has managed second place in the pre-qualified competition for the combined swimming pool and culture house in the center of Sandnessjøen. The jury states; "The pool and culture house for Sandnessjøen ia a large volume that will work best if it is broken up, such as in the proposal "Nordlys", and Sabakuhus with refference to the towns quarters". Welcome Colin

Welcolme back to Colin MacKenzie who is working with us once more. Colin was at Griff for 3 years from 2005 to 2007, and then moved on to work as an architect in Oslo for Arkitektgruppen Lille Frøen. At Lille Frøen he was mainly involved in the restructuring of existing faculties at the college of Vestfold for Statsbygg; this entailed a new 15 400 m2 extension to the existing campus, and introduced a new main entrance, a cafe, library, study spaces, staff rooms, auditoria and classrooms. Construction began in 2008 and the new building opened for students in 2010.

Prequalification in Horten

In collaboration with Dronninga Landskapsarkitektur and Cowi AS, we have prequalified for the development of Bromsjordet, located close to the center of Horten. Horten Kommune have invited us to take part in an ideas competition. Through analyzing the issues we have formulated the following statement that; Bromsjordet can be transformed into a safe, attractive neighbourhood to live in, one that can accommodate those with the desire to reside close to town, with the advantages of reduced car usage and easy access to the town center's many activities. This will be an area with safe and sheltered, quality outdoor space, and an ample provision of local gathering places. The other firms invited from the 10 original requests are Alliance Arkitektur and Futhark. The image shows the exsisting skatepark at Bromsjordet.

Aksel´s stunt on the pedestrian bridge in Fredrikstad

Musician and comic Aksel Kolstad has opened the 2010 Fredrikstad Café de Concerts Festival by jumping over his piano. It did however require two earlier atempts before Aksel landed the jump. The outstandingly grippy friction coating of the bridge proved to be not exactly helpful, when the moment came to land. Café de Concert is a concept developed by musician Aksel Kolstad. Griff Arkitektur were proud sponsors of the bridge stunt. Watch the film

Suggestion for a two sided river promenade in Fredrikstad center

With this propsal to review the District´s sectional plan for the Fredrikstad town area (previously known as the Sentrumsplanen) Griff wish to submit a planning concept that proposes a continuous river prominade to both sides of the river between the Kråkerøy road bridges. Our propsal also suggests the potential for long-term programing of specially chosen squares fronting the river and be implemented for public use. The two sided river prominade is indicated in orange, the names of specific sites are shown in yellow, and areas for extending the width of the prominade marked in brown.

New town health center at Værste

Due to the relocation of the current central hospital, the District of Fredrikstad has now decided that a new local health facility, will be located on the Kråkerøy side of the town center. The "HelsePluss" concept is developed by Totalprosjekt AS and encompasses a wide range of both public and private health services. The reorganization ensures that patients will be able to receive expertise from a multitude of disciplines; for complete medical treatment. The site lies well connected to the new roadbridge to Kråkerøy, while the adjacent park can act as an outdoor recreational space for patients and staff; a green lung with beneficial effects for the local climate. The approach to the building´s form generates the possibility to absorb different development strategies for the site, whilst still creating a unified whole. Fredrikstad District´s largest pumping station is being planned for Værste with a construction intending to start before Christmas. The building is expression of in-situ concrete and corten steel located at the head to the new road bridge to Kråkerøy. however the majority of the building mass will be invisible with three floors buried underground.

Sandnessjøen swimming pool and cultural centre

In collabouration with Nils Tveit Arkitektkontor, Griff have been prequalified for a planning and design competition in Sandnessjøen. The competition involves the particular challenge of a combined program with a swimming pool facility and local cultural centre within a tight urban context. The other prequalified firms are Asplan Viak, L2 Arkitekter, Heggelund & Koxvold, and Helen & amp, Hard in collabouration with NUNO Arkitektur. The image is from a joint visit to Sandnessjøen.

Influx of applicants to engineering college

The implications for the relocation of engineering studies to Fredrikstad is starting to have an impact. According to acting rector at the college Hans Blom, this is down to a combination of new premisses, the new location, and an increased demand for engineers in general. In just one year, the number of applications has increased substantially from 289 to 432.

Cowi building to expand

The offices of engineering firm Cowi AS, which were completed in 2007, are to be extended already. Building permission has recently been granted and construction is due to begin in the middle of September. The extension is to be a continuation of the existing building in Kråkerøy. This should provide enough space for an additional 80 employees, who have up until now been housed in other assorted buildings in the area. The project management will be carried out in partnership with Cowi As, and construction will be undertaken by Værste AS.

Senior high school in Island

Griff has entered into an open competition for a new senior high school, on the outskirts of Reykjavik. The project is part of a local urbanization strategy for the suburb of Mosfellsbær. Our design is intended to emphasize defined connections with the existing local center, an immediate bonding to the existing landscape, and the considered placement of communal areas to utilize the contrasting views out over the surrounding landscape, whilst providing a high degree of flexibility should the building be extended in future phases. Townhouses in Fagerliveien

Three special detached houses are now under construction in Fagerliveien. With an excellent site in an established housing area, we have introduced a modern 2 storey townhouse typology. Each residence addresses it´s own corner of the garden, yet the residences will all share a common entrance with shared basement parking, and benefit from a shared play area for small children. In order to rise up through the tree canopy to acheive the optimal views, light and private outdoor space, each residence is equiped with it´s own roof terrace taking advantage of aspects towards the south and to the west. The students are now in place

On Monday, January the 11th, 450 engineering students moved to their new premisses at Kråkerøy. Fredrikstad College now consists of 1840 students plus teaching staff. The new students were welcomed on their way into the new premisses with the help of sound, lights, dancing, and a variety of artistic performances led by artists Putte Helen Dal and Thomas Østergaard. Østfold Regional Theatre is coming to Fredrikstad

Following the recent decision by Østfold Regional and Fredrikstad District councils, it is now finally clear that the up and coming Østfold Regional Theatre will be located in the center of Fredrikstad. The proposal is to make use of the old machine hall at FMV in order to accommodate a flexible program for the preforming arts, dance, concerts and other events. Retractable and portable lightweight seating, can be implemented to provide solutions for everything from a seated audience of 900 to 1500 standing over 2 floors. As far as possible, consideration will be given to retaining as much of the existing hall as possible, as it stands today. It is therefore intended that the new installations will occupy the internal space as free standing elements. If everything goes according to plan, construction will be commencing early in 2011. The preforming artists are coming!

The Academy for Performing Arts is to move to the heart of Østfold College´s campus at Værste. This has implications constituting a reorganisation of all the Østfold College´s departments in Fredrikstad. The Academy´s new premisses will comprise of offices, teaching, and rehearsal rooms, including a new blackbox performance space of 300 m2, and a total gross area of approximately 2600m2. The school is Norway´s only cross disciplinary educational establishment for physical and visual theatrical arts. Two unique bachelor programs in the preforming arts are on offer as a part of the studies available at Østfold College. This aspires to be an international education with all teaching undertaken in english. The academy is known to attract students from all over Europe, and a number of famous preforming artists from across the globe teach at the academy.

The engineers are coming!

The engineering students will now be moving into the area at Værste, as an expansion of the existing college. The teaching facilities are positioned "as a building within a building" inside the former "smithy" hall, also known as "Smia" which has long served as a landmark in Fredrikstad's townscape. Over six floors, the engineering students should become inspired by some of the best working environments imaginable. The building is also physically connected to the existing department of healthcare and to other industry collaborators by way of a library in the form of a bridge. Who can conceive how many little "nurseng-ineers" this could prove to yield for the future :-)

Perlemorveien

Our project at Perlemorveien (Mother of Pearl Road) will be commencing shortly, with a start up before Christmas, with the residence due to be completed by the autumn of 2010. All living accommodation is organized around a glazed central outdoor space which gives the impression that the rooms flow seamlessly into one another. This atrium provides the house with a completely private outdoor garden on a narrow site. Additionally, the atrium leads to a viewing terrace up on the rooftop to take advantage of the evening sun and the westerly views. Otherwise, the site is left as undeveloped as possible in order to blend into the adjacent forest.

Energy efficient housing

As a joint victory with two projects running in parallel, the first phase of development at Løkkeberg in Fredrikstad will comprise of 16 houses. The client is Løkkeberg Eindomsutvikling as. All the housing has been planned in accordance with the new regulations on energy efficiency whilst also focusing on constructional solutions within stringent cost limitations, and also providing the units with an architectural character. The predominant form has been optimised with regards to volume, and the building typology can be adapted to even more stringent energy requirements with relative ease. The openings in the facade enable the double height partitions between the units to act as reflectors that direct sunlight deep into the residences. There has also been a conscious effort to break away from the pattern that each individual unit makes, so that the group can be read as a whole; regarding materials, white washed cladding provides a playful reversal to the rural references, set against the regular glass facades.

Our new webpages are here at last!

It is with great enthusiasm that we can now introduce you to our new webpages. With a good bit of help from Griff Design, we have a new look and new format set up. Our main page will be news based, and together with the personal blogs edited by our individuals, we hope to be able to communicate better and more extensively than before. We have been cherry picking from the vast array of Griff Design's webpages and collected those ideas that will work best for us. There will doubtless be some tweaking in the future as we become better acquainted with using the new set up, and also based on any feedback we receive.

Griff has just won a project competition against Biong Arkitekter, Lille Frøen, Link Signatur, Dyrø and Moen, for a multi purpose hall at Sole Forest in the District of Vestby. The hall will include various sports facilities, including a swimming pool. Our proposal has been developed in collabouration with NCC Construction Østfold. However, due to an unfortunate political disagreement over the final size of the facility, at present the project does not look like it will be progressing. It would seem that the project has not yet found sufficent grounds within the District's arrangements, and therefore further progress is undecided for the time being. View the project

Spinneriet

Griff has been presenting some ideas for the old textile mill "Spinneriet" site, which lies to the east of Fredrikstad, close to Fredrikstad bridge. Our client is Fredrikstad Boligutvikling AS. The main idea was to create 4 specific environments, each with it's own unique identity within a parkland setting, and to establish a new pedestrian connection between the old town and Fredrikstad center. Construction stops in Latvia

Back in 2007 Griff won in a competition to design the business park situated at Riga Airport. The first construction project at the business park had been under way up until December 2008 just when most building projects in the land came to a complete stand still. Latvia has been one of the hardest hit countries in Europe following the recent finance crisis. Griff has enjoyed being active with various projects in Latvia since 2001 when we first won a competition to develop a city quarter in the center of Riga. In fact between 2001 and 2009 our projects in Riga have represented 30 to 40% of our total output, and as soon as the Latvian economy starts to advance again, we also hope to be underway again.
